What expectations did you have of biology/environmental science class at the start of the year? When was the last time you had biology or earth science?
In the beginning of the year I was exited for biology because since I am an athlete, if I learned about the body, I knew I would put it to use. I wanted to connect it to sports and actually understand the reason why I do certain things for my body. I didn't really know much about environmental science, it didn't catch my ear. So I wasn't excited or frustrated about taking the class. I have never taken biology or environmental science, I had science in 8th grade but we didn't really focus on the subject.
Describe a memorable event when your perspective of what it means to be a scientist changed or was challenged. Why was this moment important to you?
In all my observation drawings I drew shapes before drawing the actual drawing of the object. This helped me by making my drawings look a lot better. When I didn’t do it my drawing weren’t as well. When people would ask me for tips on their observation drawings, I would tell them about using the observation skills and drawing shapes to make it way easier and it helped. When looking at dieting for sports and specific food, I see it with a different eye a lot of the time now. I look at it as a machine and think about the shapes and certain building blocks needed for my body to be healthy. Like how protein is one of the key shapes for my body to properly function. How I view specific things with not only observation but like in bio and the how all the systems work together, and the actual reasoning, not something I just found on pinterest about losing weight.
How have you evolved as a scientist this semester?
As a scientist I have evolved by looking at the scientific process more that the creative process, which I am comfortable with or usually do. Doing so made me see how one single object can have such a wide range of shapes and sizes. It made me more aware of the little things.
I liked this picture because I think to be using the Scientific Method, there is a lot of steps to take. You not only have to observe and see your data, you also have to create a hypothesis and a lot more.
These 2 pictures are of the first steps I took before actually drawing the object. I first observed my object (1.heart - 2.flower), then I found shapes in the actual object and drew them before making lines connecting to have proportional sizing. At first this was hard to do because I had an urge to draw what I saw, like curved lines, but I needed shapes before.
