TPW Final Product Process

Scientific/Creative Process

My scientific and creative process consisted of mostly observing and searing for details and structures of an object. When I truly began to find shapes in objects was when we observed our flowers. I found a lot of Elements of Art. We pointed out the texture, value, shape, and colors. We practiced drawing after jotting down all our info in our observation journals. I started off with my shapes, then the form, then the value, then texture. One of my favorite parts was the pencils. We had about 8 different pencil sizes and range of intensity in the pencil. We created boxes and shaded it from corner to corner, lightest to darkest. We noticed each pencil was different in texture and value. This really helped me improve my drawings.

This is the worksheet we referred to when making drawings, and for critique.

This is a the page in my journal where we took notes for "Observing Nature." I made a table with points about what creative and scientific meant. Below that, I wrote shapes I found in and object we were given to draw. I also have a mini description of the how the pencils we used worked.

What did you learn about the scientific process through the creative process?

I learned that with these two processes is a different eye you have to use. I connected it to people I know and how I am. I am a person who mostly uses the creative process. This is where you are able to have freedom to see an object as anything. Everyones creative process is different because it's YOU'RE own imagination. The scientific process is something I started developing this semester. It's kind of like rules to me, numbers. Seeing the details of how much their is in something or how big. It's a bit more restricted, but definitely equally important as the. creative process.

What challenges did you encounter in creating your best work? How did you overcome these?

Some of my common challenges I have is worrying too much about my work. I put a lot of pressure on myself since I am a perfectionist. I rarely give myself breaks, although in my eyes it's not bad because it doesn't bother me, I should be giving my self some breaks to be healthy instead of staying up for hours. I overcame the through the homework in honors, I realized if I'm so hard on myself I will never be happy, I will go crazy trying to make everything perfect. So each time I cut down the time I was taking for my homework hours. It helped me because I got more sleep then usual and it made me less stressed.
Next semester I could change my attitude and say that it doesn't always have to be perfect, just good enough for my to be okay with.

I think this perfectly shows my process in creating work. I start off confident, then try perfecting every little thing and there is tensions about if either something is straight or not, if its the right shade, and if I should keep adding or just leave it as is, then end with a work piece I am confident with. This is a great thing, but also a bad thing.

What are you most proud of in creating your best work?

I am really proud that I got to make drawings that I really enjoyed because I haven't had time to draw which I like doing on my free time. I also liked how we drew objects we saw and that were realistic because it's not really the type of style I draw in but I would like more practice with it because it was fun. I am also proud of myself because many people came up to me asking for help with their drawings. I learned how to show them how to do shading or finding structure on a separate piece of paper not just do it for them on their own drawing. I tried actually teaching my peers.
I would like to carry this into any future work, try to master a subject so I could be able to show others and with helping/teaching others, that's when you know you have learned something and you better your skills doing so.
These are pictures of my process in creating my final work. I start of with my object, then I observe it and find shapes in the object. After that I start adding form and lines. Then I gradually add value and shading to make it look "3D, Three Dimensional." After that, texture is added, and a couple of critiques.
