Math is my first class of the day so right when it is 8:30 I walk into class. Some days everyone is tiered and sometimes we are very crazy. This is something important in our class because we usually have discussions or problems to share out and if we are tiered we usually don't volunteer as much and get picked randomly. We are usually doing specific units and time to time switch it up. In these units we all work together as a class and groups to teach and learn from each other. When we finish understanding the unit we usually first take a group quiz with your table and are all accountable with each other to do this "quiz", nobody is left out in this and we work together. This is just a prep or kind of like a study to our actual quiz. Once finish our actual quiz on the unit we later create a document that we put into our portfolio that contains our artifacts of papers and our understanding on the topic, and a reflection thought learning this unit. When sharing sometimes some people are shy or are afraid so our teacher assigned all our seats to a specific card from a deck; and if he decides he can chose out of a deck of cards and whichever he randomly picks is the person who has to share their thoughts or ask a question. This is a really cool method to get students to get use to sharing in front of people and knowing that we are all here to help them if they are shy and it is good the share out because maybe you aren't quite understanding and we can all help or you might help others.
Reflection
This year in math was a success. I earned a strength to be more confident with my peers when in groups and share my ideas because I finally understood that, it's okay to get something wrong or if I am not understanding something. Thats everyone is there for a reason and why we are put in groups, and no one is left behind. I am still working on sharing in class, but I know I have learned something new by the past years seeing my growth extremely grow this year. I always tried not just memorizing or getting one problem, but I actually tried understanding it; and what it is actually saying and meaning. And even though that it is hard I know it is worth all the work because you know that you have learned something new and you can help other people and besides everything.... It just feels amazing.
Math Portfolios
Purpose
The purpose of having a math portfolio is so we can keep track of everything we learned with or as artifacts and learn to reflect in the process in learning the topic/unit.
