Spanish

Cuaderno de ESPAnOL

Spanish to me is my culture, pinatas we always went to for little cousins and friends birthdays, conchas my grandpa would always get for us, ojitos I did to my mom...
Learning/knowing more than one language is important because since spanish is part of my culture I want to be able to comunicate with my family and you have more oppurtunities when you speak more than  one language.
In this class I want to learn how to read and uderstand a lot better in spanish, since I sometimes struggle a bit with that right now.
For this class I am really exited for learning differnet ways to dance.

I Sing to You

I sing to you of Sydney,
Dancer of Ballet,
Player of Volleyball,
Pushes herslef of challenge,
Grower at HTe since 5th grade,
A learner of respect,
And made a change of her thinking.

"Learner at HTH" to learner at UCD,
"Student at UCD" to a veternarian,
"Animal Lover" to animal helper.

Sydney, sister of her brother who is almost the same person as his dad,
Sydney, who is almost the same person as her mom,
Sydney, who has moved and moved back to her house,
Sydney, who doesn't want to leave that feeling.

That is where the clovers grow from the ground,
That is where it is safe,
And that is where the memories were made.

Chicano Park

Chicano Park is located at Logan Heights, where there are murals all around painted by volunteered artists, some sculptures and architectural piece and there are even some alters. Most of these giant murals were painted on the pillars of the San Diego Coronado Bay Bridge. Because of the magnitude and historical significance of the murals, the park was designated an official historic site. Every year the community (thousands of people) celebrates the anniversary of the park's takeover with a celebration called Chicano Park Day.

Borderline Cases: Pictures that Enlighten and Words that Deceive

We have been reading, discussing, and debating the topic of unaccompanied minors entering the US from the Northern Triangle (Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador). In this project we focused on 5 essential questions:
1. Why do people immigrate to other countries?
2. What are the challenges they might face when entering a new country?
3. What is the difference between acculturation and assimilation?
4. What things are essential or necessary to achieve success in the US?
5. Is there an American dream?   Is it for everyone?
Each student chose an essential question to focus on and create an art piece answering the question or raise awareness about this issue. I chose to focus on the question, "Is there an American dream, and is it for everyone?".

Title:
Is This Reality?
Essential Question: Is There an American Dream and is it For Everyone?

This was inspired by what I think to be the opinion of some American citizens (this is not my opinion). I think one of the main topics I was thinking about was citizens having very different political opinons. It is so shocking to see how disparate we have become because of the recent president. I know that many citizens have been losing hope and saying that the American Dream is over. I wanted to show someone else's perspective with recent news.

Exhibition

At exhibition I stood next to my art piece and since I was next to the door I was greeting people into our exhibition giving them a quick summary of what we had done throughout our project and what we were all presenting. Then I would explain to them my art piece and read part of my artist statement, some would ask questions about the piece or our project. I was proud that I go the confidence to actually go to the people instead of them coming to me because before I wouldn't have done that since I use to be very shy. This was an extra step I took that I am very proud of that I did at exhibition.
