When Junior thinks about his reservation he says "located approximately one million miles north of important and two billion miles west of happy." It sounds as if he is trying to say he is miserable. But on the other hand, Rowdy, Juniors best friend is a really important person in his life. He would protect him,and this is where the dichotomy begins. When Rowdy and Junior look down from almost the top of an immense pine he says, "We could see our entire world. And our entire world in that moment was green and golden and perfect." There are two completely opposite things that he has just felt. Unhappiness and happiness. The force creating this is Rowdy. Not only him but he also describes the feeling as "seeing their entire world!" But on his first statement he describes it as just a location and distance, not a whole world of freedom. I believe he feels this way because although he does not want to leave the reservation because it is important to him, but he is feeling trapped in a lot of negativity that he receives and all of that negativity resulted of him believing all of it and "accepting" to himself that it is how he is and will live that way.
