DRAFTING

When we were first introduced the project, I automatically had ideas of what I could write about. In past writing projects when brainstorming what to write about, I always had this one story I could tell. But I never chose to write it, it was too emotionally honest compared to everyone else's story. Plus I couldn't get myself to do it, I wasn't brave enough.
So when The Power Within was said to be a project where everyone has to write about basically the most vulnerable part of themselves it was the perfect opportunity. I also at the time was going through a really tough time mentally controlling myself in my running career. Which made a huge impact one my emotions, they were all over the place. The other idea I've always wanted to write about was my sister. How I felt being treated by her my whole life, how much it affected me, how I would try to hide it, and how I couldn't hide it. These two events were so important to me and it was very hard to chose.
I ended up choosing mainly on my sister, since I have never gotten the chance to tell her how I felt. This was and would be the time I could tell her everything, with only her listening. Without her arguing back, just listening. It was like a letter to her. The last and only way I haven't tried to tell her to stop acting the way she was towards me.

Before the project started, in the summer I wrote a bit about how I felt in a journal I had. I had written in multiple pages, it wasn't amazing. But it was a good brain dump to put on my document. So I started with that. Then in class for one of the exercises, we wrote in our journal for about 5 min. I had also pasted this brain dump onto my google document. Then at the end I added research about mentality onto the document. That was my first draft. It wasn't even a story, I couldn't read it because I had barely just written down my ideas secretary but hadn't combined or revised anything, so when reading it to my peers the first time, it was pretty bad.
The next draft was all the same information, just combined. Then I started adding detail and emotion into the certain parts of the story where I felt had to be most prominent because they were important. I kept adding, and adding, from dialogue to things about running since I really wanted to squeeze in things about that. Towards the end I put in and connected the story to my biological connections within the immune system. My story, was so long. When reading it aloud it was about 13 min. I had totally passed the limit which was 7 min. I couldn't cut anything, I felt like I needed everything. It wouldn't be complete without it.
Honestly I felt like each time I revised it I needed to add more and more. It was never ending. I could talk about it for hours with a million examples. But I had to make a stopping point for myself because I was already at 11 pages.
